2007 SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS

Paul C Laing Memorial Scholarship
  Sarah Barber
Sarah is a recent graduate of Lake Shore High School.  She is planning to attend Morrisville College and major in Veterinary Medicine and Technology, where she hopes to specialize in the Equine Breeding Program.  Sarah has exhibited sheep, swine, rabbits and gaited horses as well as participated in the Creative Arts Department at America's Fair.  Miss Barber has been described as 'hardworking and responsible' which is evident with the 3.8 grade point average she manages to maintain while working at Strawberry Bank Farm and the Eden Veterinary Clinic; as well as participating in her local 4-H group and Springville FFA.

Stacey C Hopkins
Kimberly will be entering her sophomore year at Michigan State University where she is studying Veterinary Medicine.  Kimberly was the recipient of the Carl L. Peri Award at the 1999, 2001 and 2003 Fair Dog Shows.  She was the Grooming and Handling Champion at the 2001 and 2003 Fair.  She has also received a Blue Ribbon in 4-H Photography.  Kimberly is still undecided on her specialty in Veterinary, but enjoys working with the animals.

Aaron A. Koss
Aaron is a recent graduate of Clarence High School.  He plans on entering SUNY Morrisville in the fall to study general animal science, hoping to narrow his educational focus later on in his academic career.  Aaron has been an active member of the 4-H for ten years, participating n the sheep and swine shows at the Fair for the past eight years.  Not only is he involved in his 4-H, but he also owns and manages a flock of Hampshire sheep, is a member of the Clarence Varsity Rifle Team, while managing a 90.8 grade point average.

Caitlyn J. Rosiek
Caitlynn is a recent graduate of Lakeshore Senior High School.  She plans on attending Cornell University in the fall studying Animal Science, with the eventual goal of applying to medical school.  Caitlyn has participated as a 4-H livestock exhibitor at the Fair for the past nine years, winning Swine Project Champion in 2004 and Meat/Dairy Goat Project Champion in 2006.  In addition to her active agricultural undertakings, Caitlyn is actively involved in her high school music and drama program, and has a 3.73 grade point average.  She is described as 'cheerful, even-tempered, pleasant individual,' and tackles all of her various pursuits with enthusiasm and energy.

Laura Kelkenberg
Laura is currently a first year student at Genesee Community College, studying liberal arts and sciences.  She has expressed interest in becoming an agricultural education teacher, and is already taking steps in achieving that goal.  As a camp counselor at a farm camp, Laura has helped children learn how to feed and care for animals, as well as teach them facts about animals they see on the farm.  She has been an active member in her 4-H for twelve years, exhibiting in the Youth Department Building, as well as Market Swine, Steers and chickens.  In addition, she is interning at Akron Central School with pre-kindergarten and third grade classes.

Michael J. Kowalski
Mike is a recent graduate of Springville Griffith Institute, and plans on attending Morrisville State College in the fall for Natural Resources and Conservation.  An active member in the Springville FFA, Mike is the chapter president as well as an Empire Degree recipient, the highest degree awarded to a New York State FFA member.  In addition to his FFA participation, Mike also manages to work at Alloy Welding in Boston.  Described as a 'very respectable and responsible young adult' who impressed people with his 'work ethic, capability and dependability' in the working world.

Jill Crouthamel
Jill is South Wales resident who is currently a nursing student at St John Fisher College in Rochester, NY.  She has actively participated in her 4-H group exhibiting market lambs and participating in the dairy leasing program as well as president.  Jill hopes to make a difference in the world, and is considering joining the Peace Corps and becoming a traveling nurse after her education is completed.
